In 1998, China's total SO2 emissions became the country with the highest SO2 emissions in the world. With the rapid development of China's economy and the continuous increase in coal consumption, the emissions will increase by 1 million tons per year, resulting in acid rain covering 40% of China's land area, and the economic losses caused by acid rain reaching tens of billions of yuan per year. Countries around the world have noticed the harm of air pollution to human survival and have invested huge amounts of funds to rectify it. China has also formulated the "China Cross Century Green Engineering Plan" to comprehensively control air pollution.
